Part Time Instructional Aide/Behavioral Specialist

John G. Wood School is seeking a part time instructional aide and behavioral specialist to work with children with emotional behaviors. Responsibilities include assisting teachers with classroom activities and working with students who are experiencing difficulty within the classroom structure. Other responsibilities may include tutoring and assisting children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. Hours per week 20-25.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Degree in Education is preferred but not required
• Minimum age of 21.
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License with driving record in good standing.
• Experience working with adolescents and/or equivalent experience.

 

Teaching-Parents

Our campus has opportunities for married couples to become professional Teaching- Parents and live and work in a home with up to 8 adolescents ages 11-17. VHBG is a certified sponsor site for the international Teaching-Family Model. Training is provided in this model of care and Teaching-Parents have opportunities, as they develop their skills, to become certified in the model. Responsibilities include: interacting with and consulting with various adults/professionals to help residents develop successful life skills, managing a house budget, providing a family-style atmosphere and advocating for all adolescents in your care. Relevant education in the human services field and/or experience with adolescents is preferred, but not required. The strong desire to create a lifestyle centered on working directly with adolescents in a supportive, nurturing home environment is a must. Alternate Teaching-Parent

Work in a Teaching-Family home with up to 8 adolescents between the ages of 11-17 years (not co-ed). Teaching-Parents are allowed 4-8 24 hr overnight periods per month off in which they may leave campus. ATP’s provide coverage during these periods.
The ATP helps the TP in every day tasks including but not limited to; teaching adolescents basic fundamentals using the Teaching-Family model (www.teaching-family.org), administering medication, attending family meetings, sporting events, entertainment. Training is provided in passive restraint methods, CPR, first aid, administering medication and the Teaching-Family model. Some disorders affecting adolescents at VHBG are ADHD, bipolar disorder, reactive detachment, sexually reactive disorder.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Degree in Social Services is preferred but not required
• Minimum age of 21.
• Experience working with adolescents and/or equivalent experience.

 

 

All successful applicants will have a valid Virginia Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
