Why Give To VHBG

Gifts to VHBG are investments in the future. VHBG alumni are CEO’s, police officers, entrepreneurs, teachers, ministers and full-time college students.

VHBG is a 501(c) 3 entity. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent of the law.

VHBG is committed to working with every child and family that is referred to us. Our practice of individualization allows us to examine each case individually and strategically. We look at the whole child and whenever possible, engage the family in the process. Your gift provides the necessary support public funds from cities and counties do not cover.

Important Facts About YOUR Annual Fund Gift At Work:

$.80 of every dollar donated provides direct services to Virginia’s at-risk children and their families. As a result, annual gifts provide:

  • Meals in the residential program (over 3,850 meals are prepared by children and staff each year).
  • Counseling and medical services. VHBG employs two full-time therapists and one consults with a psychiatrist, for a combined (50+ years) of experience working with at-risk children and their families.
  • Critical on-the-job and pre-service training for staff within the Teaching-Family Model of care (VHBG requires the most training hours for our direct care staff—3 times the state requirement.)
  • Great grads! VHBG's graduation rate for public school and John G. Wood School is 98%--trumping Virginia's graduation rate by almost 10%.

Make a gift online or mail your donation to VHBG, 8716 West Broad St., Richmond, VA 23294. To contribute appreciated stock, please contact Ann Rohde Payes, Vice President of Development.

Get involved

Join us in building a community of care—individuals who work and play together to support the tradition of serving children at VHBG. Your efforts will raise awareness, raise funds and ultimately, allow for more of Virginia’s children to receive counseling, a home…respite and safety. Even small contributions can have a significant positive influence, bringing hope to the lives of thousands of children each year suffering from abuse and neglect.

You can become a part of this community of support by volunteering, hosting an event or becoming a sponsor. Annual special events benefitting VHBG include the Skeet Shoot in April and Band Together and the Golf Classic in September.

For more information on how you can become one of our partners, please contact Neil Woolcott at (804) 270-6566 ext. 146 or nwoolcott@boysandgirlshome.org

Leave a legacy of strength by supporting VHBG through your estate plans.

Planned gifts not only provide for VHBG's future, but they may help reduce estate tax and offer current tax deductions. Donors who designate VHBG in their estate plans are invited to join The Legacy Society, an organization created to recognize these gifts of a lifetime. Legacy Society donors ensure the safety and livelihood of our children well into the future.

You may consider various planned-giving opportunities:

A bequest: Designating a gift for VHBG in your will is easy. The Bequest Language form provides the information you need.

Charitable remainder trust: A charitable remainder trust provides fixed or variable income for you during your lifetime. When you pass away, the remaining principal comes to VHBG.

Charitable lead trust: A charitable lead trust provides regular payments to Massey during your lifetime for either a term of years or your lifetime. This vehicle reduces estate taxes. The remainder of the estate is given to one’s heir(s) or other beneficiaries.

You also may give in the form of:

  • Life insurance
  • Qualified retirement plans
  • Real estate

VHBG is happy to work with you and your adviser to ensure your gift is arranged as easily and as beneficially for you and your family as possible.
